Northside Title Information
The Title 1 program at Northside Elementary School consists of both pull-out times and time where we work with the students in their regular classroom. My great team of aides includes Shana Goering, Lynn Ryan, Teresa Reece, and Crystal Schmidt.
Title Reading at Northside consists of an hour long pull-out program five days a week. When the students come to the Title 1 room, we divide them up into small groups, and the students participate in several activities. In the groups we focus on phonemic awareness skills, phonics instruction, fluency instruction, vocabulary and comprehension. The students do hands on activities with words, practice sight words, learn spelling rules, reread stories for fluency practice, learn vocabulary words, retell stories, learn how to find answers to questions, and practice grammar skills to improve their writing. Many activities incorporate technology as well. We also work on test taking skills, and provide a place for students to take tests in a small group or 1 on 1 situation.
Title Math includes a pull-out time and in class help. The math students come to the Title 1 room 30 minutes a day for instruction and practice. There is also an aide in each classroom during the math lesson to provide extra support. In the Title 1 room each day we practice computation, solve a word problem, and work on a lesson. We also have a focus of assisting the students to master the basic facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
